Shop Local with the Third Annual Moonlight Madness Sale!
It’s time to get ready, Fort McMurray. The third annual Moonlight Madness sale is happening Friday, December 6. That’s right. Do your stretches, grab your reusable bags, and gas up your car. This Friday, from 9:00am until 10:00pm, 36 local businesses will be offering one-day-only flash sale prices. Now’s the chance to get all your Christmas shopping done, locally and affordably.
The event, organized by Nathalie Jaindl of Absolute Serendipity and Melanie Galea of Discover Fort McMurray, brings “the local mom and pop shops together in a sale just for them,” said Galea. Moonlight Madness tells local business owners, “you’re not alone out there in advertising and running your business.”
Galea continued, “my favourite part is the community getting involved and people saying, ‘Oh I didn’t know that was here! I didn’t know that was here either!’”
In the three years since it started, Moonlight Madness has doubled the number of participating businesses. “Every year we try to make it better,” Galea shared.
There’s no denying the numbers add up - according to statistics, 63 cents of every dollar spent locally stays in the community.
“It’s about shopping local and supporting local. So many of these people and business owners support our community whether it’s the Northern Light Health Foundation, the United Way, your local sports team, they can’t do that if you’re not shopping local,” said Galea.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and get those deals! And while you’re at it, take pictures of your purchases and share stories about your shopping spree on social media with #iShopYMM.
