Municipality encourages residents to become Snow Angels this winter

(1 Vote)

(Fort McMurray, AB – October 15, 2019) – Winter is coming, and the Municipality is looking for dedicated, outgoing and caring community members to become Snow Angels. Snow Angels volunteer to shovel the personal walkways and driveways of senior’s homes in the community.

“It may seem like a small thing, but it has a huge impact on our senior population,” said Melissa Williams, Social Program Advisor with Neighbourhood and Community Development. “Helping out by shoveling a senior’s driveway means they can more safely get out of the house, are less isolated, and feel more valued in our community.”

Shovels and ice scrapers are donated by the RMWB and delivered to volunteers by Municipal staff.

The Snow Angel Program began as a pilot project in 2009 with 9 homes. Now in its 10th year, the Snow Angel Program has grown to more than 100 homes. In the past, volunteers have been individuals, community groups, businesses, sports teams, church groups and families.
