RMWB announced as an official stop for Rogers Hometown Hockey’s Sixth Canada-Wide Tour
(Fort McMurray, AB – September 10, 2019) – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is set to welcome Canada’s ultimate NHL fan experience. In a media release distributed by Sportsnet on September 10, 2019, the region was announced as one of the 25 communities welcoming the 2019-20 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour presented by Scotiabank and Hyundai.
The event will take place from November 23-24, 2019, at MacDonald Island Park and will be hosted by Sportsnet’s Ron MacLean and Tara Slone. The 2019 tour stop marks the second time the event will be hosted within the region, the first being in November 2014.
“We are excited to welcome Rogers Hometown Hockey back to Wood Buffalo and to celebrate our love of Canada’s national winter sport with all Canadians,” said Mayor Don Scott. “This event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our communities and spirit while offering residents a weekend of unforgettable experiences and festivities.”
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo tour stop will coincide with the NHL broadcast of the Edmonton Oilers vs. the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday, November 24.
Activities taking place at the festival include live entertainment, NHL alumni autograph signings and meet and greets, games, free giveaways from partners, a live pre-game and NHL game broadcast with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone, community events and much more.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s 2019-20 Rogers Hometown Hockey tour stop will be organized with the assistance of a community committee.

About the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour presented by Scotiabank and Hyundai The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour rolls into 25 communities across Canada this season with a weekend of free outdoor hockey festivities for all ages. The weekend culminates in an outdoor viewing party of an NHL game broadcast every Sunday on Sportsnet and Sportsnet NOW, with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone hosting live on site from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio.
