Registration for heavy item pickup open until May 28

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 22, 2019) – Need a little help with spring cleaning? Residents are invited to register for the annual heavy item pickup program from May 21 – 28.

Registration for the program is open from May 21 until May 28 at 8 a.m. to have residential heavy items picked up for disposal. Once residents have completed the registration form, a pickup date will be assigned between June 4 and 8.

The annual heavy item pickup program allows residents to easily and conveniently dispose of heavy, bulky items including the following:

  • Sofas / Couches
  • Loveseats / Chairs
  • Mattresses / Box springs
  • Treadmills
  • Dressers
  • Stoves
  • Dishwashers
  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Large televisions (24-inch tube or 27 inches and larger)
  • Refrigerators

Please note: Barbecues are not included in the heavy item pickup program. 

 

Registration is limited and all registered items (maximum four per household) must be at the curbside by 8 a.m. on the assigned pickup dayThis program is not available for commercial and construction related items.

Disposal Fees

Refrigerant gas removal is required, and a $42.90 fee will be charged on these items. Mattresses and box springs are also subject to a $20 fee (per piece) for disposal.

 

Refrigerant Gas Removal

Refrigerant gas is classified as a hazardous waste and must be contained so it does not contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer. Any unit that has refrigerant gas removed prior to pick up needs a certificate from the specialist who removed the refrigerant.
