Leadership Wood Buffalo, Call for Applications, and Announcement of the Sana El Ache Memorial Community Leadership Bursary

(FORT MCMURRAY, AB – May 15, 2019) – Leadership Wood Buffalo is calling emerging leaders in all sectors and across the region to submit their application to participate in the 2019-2020 program. Leadership Wood Buffalo was originally introduced in response to exponential community growth and the need to develop future community leaders with the belief that strong boards make strong communities. The continued growth and opportunities in Wood Buffalo underscores the importance of having strong community-minded leaders in all sectors.

Along with the open recruitment of the Leadership Wood Buffalo Program, FuseSocial is honoured to introduce the Sana El Ache Memorial Community Leadership Bursary as part of its commitment to growing and enhancing the capacity of the social profit sector within Wood Buffalo.

The Sana El Ache Memorial Community Leadership Bursary is offered in memory of Sana El Ache, the founding Executive Director of Leadership Wood Buffalo. When speaking with Russell Thomas, long-time community member, Leadership Wood Buffalo Alumni, and current FuseSocial Vice Chair he shares stories of Sana’s grace and her ability to empower people: “She’s gone, but she’s not gone – she’s still here”, and this is demonstrated through all the lives she has touched within the community.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Leadership Wood Buffalo Alumni, the Sana El Ache Memorial Community Leadership Bursary will offer one full paid tuition, up to $2700, each year for the foreseeable future. This bursary will be granted to a community member who resides within the Wood Buffalo region and demonstrates an interest in exploring and developing their leadership skills, both personally and at a community level.

A message from Sana’s family reads: “Leadership Wood Buffalo was a huge part of Sana’s life. She was very passionate about making a difference in the communities that she lived in, and we are very happy that her memory can continue to live on in the form of this bursary that is sure to support the leaders to come in Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo”.
