Residential landfill fees waived: May 17 – 20

(1 Vote)

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 10, 2019) – It’s the perfect time to dig into spring cleaning. The municipality is waiving landfill fees for residential household waste from May 17 until May 20.

This means that you can bring your residential (household) waste to the landfill for free during this timeframe.

Please note that this program is for residential (household) waste only, and does not include renovation, demolition, industrial or commercial waste.

Bring your waste to the landfill and stop at one of the two scales to weigh in and out. The municipal landfill is located approximately 8.5 kilometres south of Fort McMurray on Highway 63. The entrance is on the west side of the highway.

The residential scale, located at the public drop off area, will open for the summer on Friday, May 17 and operate 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 7 days a week. Residential customers may still use the public drop off outside of these hours but will be required to weigh in and out at the main scale. The residential scale is for non-commercial vehicles only. Any vehicle towing a trailer or with a commercial license must use the main scale.  The main scale hours of operation are 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Tarp your load

For everyone’s safety, please be sure to tarp or secure your load before taking it to the landfill.

It’s required by law that every load being transported over a public roadway be covered or secured in a manner to prevent any debris from falling out of the vehicle.

Save time

Please keep in mind the busiest time at the landfill is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.  To avoid traffic congestion, you may want to arrange to dispose of your waste outside of these times.

Stay tuned for more events

A number of solid waste and disposal events are scheduled in the coming months. Stay tuned for announcements for programs like Household Hazardous Waste Roundup, Big Bin Events, Heavy Item Pickup, and the new RFID (radio frequency identification) program.
