The World’s Largest Buffalo Monument is set to call MacDonald Island Park home
(Fort McMurray, AB – April 1, 2019) – In spring 2019 MacDonald Island Park is set to break a world record by becoming home to the World’s Largest Buffalo Monument. What’s the best part? This structure will be entirely made of wood! The monument will be named ‘The Wood Buffalo presented by (insert sponsor)’.
The current record holding statue is in Jamestown, North Dakota, it stands 26ft high and is constructed of concrete. The plans in place have the structure at MacDonald Island Park standing 31ft, set to defeat the current record by 5ft.
“We are really excited for this project to take shape,” says Graig Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). “The RRC is pushing hard to deliver unique bundled experiences to residents and visitors of the region. We feel this Wood Buffalo can generate a similar tourism impact to this region as has been seen in Glendon with the Perogy, Andrew with the Mallard, and Vegreville with the pysanka.”
“Strategically located at the Baseball Stadium, this wooden giant will overlook our Fort McMurray Giants as they take the field each season. Watching a sporting event while looking at the World’s Largest Buffalo Monument creates an experience unique to Fort McMurray and memories that will last the test of time.”
