Back-to-school transit update: Temporary additional school special service announced

(1 Vote)

The Municipality is announcing temporary additional school special transit service to accommodate students getting used to their new school routine.

With the school year starting on Sept. 4, students from across the region will be heading to their first day of classes. To facilitate this process, all 14 School Special routes from the 2017-2018 school year will be brought back on a temporary basis.

In addition on Aug. 24, nine School Specials were announced as part of transit updates for the 2018-2019 school year. These routes will also be in service through the adjustment period, providing students with numerous options for getting to school safely and on time.

This additional school special service will be offered through a temporary adjustment period. The Transit team will be working with School Boards to monitor transit ridership and make adjustments as needed. Residents and school boards will be notified of any additional changes through the adjustment period.

Additional regular Transit service updates were announced on August 24. Those updates remain in place and will still take effect on Friday, August 31.

Motorists are also reminded of pedestrian safety and school zones. Please remember that school zones will take effect on Sept. 4, so please observe posted traffic signage and speed limits.

With the Labour Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 3, Transit service will be operating on the holiday schedule with service limited to Routes 11, 15, 16, 18, and 99.

Residents can call or email Transit Services about the updated schedule and routes:
