Yard waste curbside collection – Bagging and disposal
Yard waste curbside collection began in Fort McMurray on May 28. Residents are requested to put yard waste in brown paper bags.
Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, flowers, weeds, plants, or small twigs and sticks.
Residents are reminded that crews can only pick up brown paper yard waste bags. Plastic bags and compostable bags are not accepted as they are not compatible with the shredding machines at the landfill.
Brown paper yard waste bags can be placed at the curb beside regular collection bins – not inside bins – on regularly scheduled curbside collection dates.
Please do not put kitchen food scraps, pet waste or non-organic garden waste such as broken plant pots in the bag. Commercial yard waste will not be accepted.
Each household is limited to four bags of yard waste per week – 16 kg (35 lbs). If extra bags are put out, the curbside crews will issue a notification advising of the issue, and the extra bags will not be picked up.
Yard waste curbside collection will run until the autumn when snow begins to fall.
The public drop off area at the landfill is able to receive yard waste at no charge year-round, seven days a week from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
