RRC Announces 2018 Canada Day Activities at MacDonald Island Park

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC), in collaboration with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), is pleased to announce the line-up of Canada Day celebration events taking place at MacDonald Island Park on July 1, 2018.

Canada Day 2018 in Wood Buffalo kicks off July 1 with a Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., hosted by the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo. Shuttles to the annual Canada Day Parade are available, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the front entrance of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. The Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Shuttles will be available to transport parade attendees back to MacDonald Island Park to enjoy a full day of family activities and entertainment.

Beginning at noon attendees can enjoy a Craft Carnival presented by Finning, face painters, bouncy castles and public swimming at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre. Children’s entertainment features performances by Toopy & Binoo at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and the David Thiel Magic Show at 2:15 p.m. on the Mix 103.7 & 100.5 CRUZ FM Family Main Stage. At 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., in the parking lot near the Family Main Stage, children can attend a meet and greet with Paw Patrol’s Chase and Skye.

The Fort McMurray Giants host the Melville Millionaires for an evening game at Shell Place Baseball Stadium. The opening pitch takes place at 6:05 p.m.

Beer gardens and lawn games begin at 5:00 p.m. in the MacDonald Island Parking lot adjacent to the Fox Den Lounge, with the Country 93.3 & 97.9 Rock Community Music Showcase at the Music Main Stage. The evening entertainment features a variety of popular local musical performers, including Midlife Crisis, Soul Speaker, Dan Tulk Band, and the final act of the evening, The Dungarees. The evening will finish off with a bang with the Syncrude Grand Finale Fireworks scheduled for 11:59 p.m.
