Royal Canadian Legion Monument Vandalized
The Royal Canadian Legion Fort McMurray Branch #165 has reported that in the early morning hours of Monday June 4th, the Afghanistan Fallen Veterans Memorial located on the Legion grounds was vandalized.
Between 12:30 AM and 4:40 AM, an unknown person or persons, threw paint onto the base of the monument, and the monument itself.
Legion Branch #165 President Patrick TH Duggan said “to desecrate the monument that reminds us of the 162 of our nation’s fallen is similar to going to the hometowns of those brave souls and desecrating each of their gravestones.”
The Legion is calling for anyone who may have seen what happened or heard anything about the incident, reports what they know. “If those involved have any sort of conscience at all they would admit to this injustice to our Armed Forces personnel and allow for some closure for a community that certainly has been through enough.”
