Emergency Preparedness Week encourages residents be emergency ready

Emergency Preparedness Week takes place from May 6 to 12 with the national theme, “Be Emergency Ready”.  Residents are encouraged to learn the risks within the community and prepare their 72-hour emergency kit.

“Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere,” said Chris Graham, Assistant Deputy Chief, Regional Emergency Services. “The most important thing is to be prepared, and that starts with three steps: know the risks, make a plan and get a kit.”

The Emergency Management Branch and partnering organizations including the Recovery Task Force, Alberta Health Services, The Royal Canadian Legion, and the YMCA will be hosting the Ready, Set Prepared! community event on May 12, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion. The free event includes a barbeque, giveaways, and emergency preparedness and wellness information.
