Have your say: Cannabis legalization in our community
The Municipality is inviting residents and stakeholders to help shape the way cannabis legalization will take place in Wood Buffalo.
An online survey will be open at rmwb.ca/cannabis through May 13 and residents are invited to a series of public engagement opportunities scheduled across the region.
“The Federal Government has signaled it will legalize recreational cannabis this summer and we want to ensure any proposed Bylaw changes for Council’s consideration are guided by the communities, residents and stakeholders we serve,” said Jamie Doyle, Director of Planning and Development. “Any recommendation we develop will also be aligned with federal and provincial cannabis legislation and will put community health and safety as a priority.”
The Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta have established several rules and regulations for cannabis legalization, including minimum age requirements, possession limits and separation distances from schools and health care facilties.
The Municipality is focused on proposed changes to the Land Use Bylaw, Business Licence Bylaw and Smoking Bylaw and in establishing rules for public consumption, among other new guidelines.
