2018 Alberta Winter Games crosses finish line: Thank you visitors and participants

(1 Vote)

The 2018 Alberta Winter Games wrapped up in Wood Buffalo yesterday, but the legacy will remain in the community.

“My deepest gratitude goes out all of those who came together to make Wood Buffalo shine this weekend,” said Mayor Don Scott. “I’d like to congratulate all competing athletes, and thank all of the visitors who came to our region for the Alberta Winter Games. I’d also like to thank the local athletes, residents, volunteers, sponsors and Games staff who carried our community on their shoulders and exemplified everything that is good about our home.”

"As a Host Society, we are overjoyed by the number of out of town visitors who traveled to the region to attend the Games and the number of residents who came out to support our local athletes," says Michelle Toner, General Manager of 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games. "The event was a tremendous success and it would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers, stakeholders, staff and sponsors."

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo was the proud host region for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games from Feb. 16 – 19, as young athletes from across the province competed in 21 events in 19 different sports.
