Residents advised of election candidate registration requirements

(Fort McMurray, AB – Jan. 24, 2018) – Potential candidates for the 2021 municipal election are advised of candidate registration requirements.

The Local Authorities Election Act requires eligible individuals who intend to run for all future municipal elections to register with the Municipality before accepting any campaign contributions, including the funds of the candidate.

Potential candidates must file an “Application for Registration of Notice of Intent to Become a Candidate for Municipal Office” with the Municipality. The candidate registration legislation does not apply if the candidate’s entire election campaign is funded exclusively out of the candidate’s own funds, up to a maximum of $10,000.
