Class of 2021
Currently working for Bumper to Bumper, Brittany Ganase is a graduate of the University of Calgary – Human Resource Management.
She lives by Grace Murray Hopper’s words, “You manage things; you lead people,” and recently sat down with YMM to talk about her career path and proudest accomplishments.
YMM: What is the best advice you ever received?
BG: When I first started my career in finance I was hired at an entry level position and was eager to advance within the company. My leader at the time noticed and encouraged me to research different career paths within the organization as well as job shadow as much as possible. This leader continually eased my fear of not knowing it all with the advice to “Fake it until you make it.”
YMM: What is something people are always surprised to learn about you?
BG: Most people are very surprised and do not believe me when I say I am mechanically inclined. I can fix anything from a washing machine or dryer to a 1980 Yamaha Enticer sled.
YMM: How have your priorities changed in the last 10 years?
BG: Ten years ago I was living in a studio apartment, in the infancy stage of my career, navigating two jobs and approximately 70+ hours/ week. Fast forward 10 years, I am still trying to navigate a work life balance with family, community engagement, a full time career and post-secondary education. My priorities have matured and the work is much more fulfilling
YMM: What motivates you?
BG: A story. I love to talk and engage people with experiences whether they are stories of pure fortune or mishap. I am motivated by gathering knowledge, and others experience, taking this and sharing with others.
YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
BG: The accomplishment I am most proud of is my children. Although I have not accomplished raising them, which I don’t believe as a parent you ever stop. I am proud of who they are growing into.
