Hello sunshine, smoothies at Mitchells and drinks on the Fox Den Lounge patio! Spring and summer are the best months in Fort McMurray. The long, sunny days bring glorious late evenings with great friends and amazing events all over town.
Our second annual Home and Garden Guide - a spring/summer special edition, is back by popular demand. There is just so much to do around the home, and with lots of buying and selling action on the local real estate market there is lots for us to share with you.
Some of my favourite parts of this issue come from personal fun memories of mine! When I first moved back to Fort McMurray six years ago, my first job was working with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Communities in Bloom program. Seville, Karen and the rest of the volunteer team work very hard to ensure we have a thriving, sustainable and very beautiful city to live in. I remember handing out “seed packets” at the Fort McMurray Tourism Spring Trade Show with the “Flower of the Year”. That year (2009) it was the Zinnium. This year is the Dianthus. I don’t have much of a green thumb, but try yours out and plant some of these to help spread some summer beauty at your home! Learn more on page 15.
On page 12, check out Mike Jones “Soundtrack for Summer” with some classic summer tunes that will keep the good memories flowing! I’ve enjoyed lots of concerts with the crew at Rock 97.9 and Country 93.3, and this summer we’ll be rocking out to the classic hits of Aerosmith at the brand new Nexen Stage at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place! Long name - amazing addition to our city!
So go, take advantage of the long days and make the most of your homes and gardens! Install a fire pit, go out to Dunvegan Gardens for some backyard goodies and get to the memory-making!
Cheers!
