Celebrating Summer in Fort McMurray - A Soundtrack to Summer

(1 Vote)

Hopefully you got lots of rest this winter because summer is just around the corner and there just isn’t a lot of time for sleep! Between the Western Canada Summer Games and a whole slew of concerts- 2015 promises to be even bigger and better in Fort McMurray. Not sure what to load your iPod up with? Don’t worry- I’ve got your back with the perfect songs for some of my favourite summer activities.

SITTING AROUND THE FIRE?

“The Weight”- The Band

Hope you’ve got your fire permits in order & your S’more skills perfected because there will be many an ample campfire night this summer! This band classic will have everyone singing along- and if you want to go the extra mile it’s pretty easy to learn on guitar too! Also try: “Swing Life Away” – Rise Against

FLOATING DOWN THE SNYE?

“River Bank”- Brad Paisley

“We’re laughing all the way to the river bank” sings Brad in this summer tune! And much laughter will be had indeed- especially if you cheap out on your floatie and watch in horror and embarrassment as it slowly deflates while your friends point and laugh. Don’t cheap out on your floatie. And definitely don’t forget the sunscreen!

Also try: “Booze Cruise”- Blackjack Billy

JUST OUT FOR A RIP?

“Mud” –The Road Hammers

Quads, ATV’s, Side by Sides- you’re bound to see them all ripping through the mud this summer! I for one can’t wait to explore our beautiful back country! Just make you sure you don’t get TOO deep in the bog- or you’ll be singing a different tune….

Also try: “The Truck Got Stuck”- Corb Lund

HAVING A PICNIC?

“Little Yellow Blanket”- Dean Brody

Whether it’s a romantic one on one or a full family affair- everyone loves a good picnic! I can just taste the potato salad and it is DELICIOUS! There are lots of great picnic tables throughout the RMWB- or you can kick it old school like Dean Brody and bust out a blanket!

Also try: “Chicken Fried”- Zac Brown Ban

ROAD TRIP?

“Life Is A Highway”

Tom Cochrane

With so much to do in Fort McMurray this summer- it’s crazy to even think you’d want to head down south. But if you are hitting the road for a Wedding/Family Reunion/Bar Mitzvah know you’ll be in good hands with a little Cochrane cranked on the stereo! Drive safe!!

Also try: “On the Road Again”

- Willie Nelson

FEELING NOSTALGIC?

“Summer of 69”- Bryan Adams

Put down the Candy Crush and Angry Birds and enjoy the great outdoors this summer! This Bryan Adams tune will get everyone (even Grandma) singing right along! (It might make for a funny Vine though!)

Also try: “In the Summertime” – Mungo Jerry

CONCERT TIME?

“Livin’ On the Edge- Aerosmith”

I can’t WAIT to check out the new Shell Place this summer- and you just know “the bad boys from Boston” are bringing all the hits July 19th! Also in Fort McMurray, check out the Wild West Country Festival with Dallas Smith, Dean Brody and Doc Walker July 10th and 11th!

Also try: “Nothing But Summer”- Dallas Smith

HITTING UP GREGOIRE LAKE?

“Boat on the Water” – Aaron Pritchett

One of my favourite day trips in the summer is down Highway 881 to Gregoire Lake! Relax in the sand, play some beach volleyball and maybe even take a dip! Or better yet find a friend who’s got a boat and go for a cruise!

Also try: “Beachin’”- Jake Owen

PULLING AN ALL-NIGHTER?

“Up All Night”- Deric Ruttan

If this is your first summer in Northern Alberta- you are in for a treat! It stays light out SUPER late in the summer! The only downside is if you accidentally stay out until 4 and have to work early the next day. Jobs are overrated anyways.

Also try: “Summer Nights” – Rascal Flatts

STUDY BREAK?

“Schools Out”- Alice Cooper

This one goes out to all the kids- and the Keyano students too! No more teachers, no more homework- and best of all no early bedtime! Just know when you’re hanging out this summer- your teachers are having just as much fun, if not more (I’ve met some pretty crazy teachers in my day!)

Also try: “Another Brick In the Wall (Part 2)” – Pink Floyd
