Have a Heartwarming Christmas at Keyano Theatre
It will be a Christmas to remember at the Keyano Theatre & Art Centre this holiday season, with drama, music, and comedy that will entertain and warm the heart. Featuring three endearing holiday shows, the theatre promises to take some of the hustle and bustle out of the season and get the entire family in the mood for Christmas.
The first holiday offering will be a delightful tale from the Keyano Theatre Company:
A Christmas Story
Directed by Dave Horak, an award-winning theatre director and actor, this Christmas favourite is Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s and will feature a cast of talented Keyano Theatre Company members.
If you don’t already know the story, here’s the rundown: A holiday wish in a world that seems to be conspiring to make certain it doesn’t come true, the story follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. With its pink-bunny-suit, glowing-leg-lamp, triple-dog-daring glory, this show is the perfect holiday treat for the entire family.
- All evening shows start at 8 p.m.
- Preview night: Nov. 22
- Opening night Nov. 23
- Evening shows Nov. 24, 29, 30 & Dec. 1
- Matinee: Dec. 1, 2 p.m.
The Huron Carole – Tom Jackson
Featuring Juno and Gemini award nominee Tom Jackson, The Huron Carole is a celebration of Christmas through song and storytelling. Jackson is a musician, beloved TV personality (North of 60, Star Trek, Law and Order), and long-time champion for the marginalized. Having experienced life on the streets himself, he discovered music was a way to help others.
For three decades The Huron Carole has stitched its way into the Canadian cultural and social fabric, crisscrossing the country, and bringing hope to the less fortunate as the tour raises funds for local food banks and family service agencies.
Many remark that it’s the perfect way to celebrate their Christmas season and get into the spirit of the holidays. It is presented by title sponsor Syncrude.
- Saturday, Dec. 15, 8 p.m.
The BEST Little NEWFOUNDLAND Christmas Pageant... EVER!
The Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre is pleased to present a hilarious and touching Christmas Theatre production in the form of Wizgiggling Productions heartwarming East-Coast family comedy. A part of the Syncrude Arts Alive Series, it is a touching holiday show that won’t disappoint.
The story goes like this: Creating the Best Little Newfoundland Christmas Pageant...Ever! is seemingly a dull task for Mrs. O’Brien, who has been put in charge when the original leader, Mrs. Armstrong, hits a moose with her car. What could be so hard? It’s always the same Mary and Joseph and it’s always the same Christmas carols, but no one was expecting the Herdmans to show up for the auditions!
The Herdmans are “the worst kids in the world” who don’t know anything about Christmas beyond the hamper they get every year, and have only showed up because they heard there were free refreshments.
It all comes to a head when the worst pageant ever turns out to be the best one, as everyone learns the true meaning of Christmas.
- Sunday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m.
