Dunvegan Gardens

Dunvegan Gardens located near Draper Road is the key to your family’s landscaping and gardening needs. The garden centre is open from spring to late fall and entering the business is an experience of its own. Beautifully laid out with a koi pond in the back of the greenhouse and rabbits lining the garden centre. Year round there are home décor items and classic children’s toys for sale. In the winter time, the centre is completely transformed to become a winter wonderland. Stroll through the greenhouse turned Candy Cane Lane and get yourself in the Christmas Spirit. Keyano Theatre Company’s Presentation of A Christmas Carol

Running from November 23 through December 2, this production is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family. The Keyano Theatre Company will present its own take on the classic story by Charles Dickens about Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Packed full of local talent, a variety of options are available to attend a show: preview night, opening night, regular showings and a matinee to work into all family schedules.

Vista Ridge

Vista Ridge Ski/Snowboarding hill and Tube Park. Vista Ridge is open year round with seasonal options for the outdoorsy person. Offering 60 acres of skiing and snowboarding terrain with 5 lanes of tube runs in the winter, Vista Ridge is fun for the whole family. Bring your own gear, or rent from there, there are skiing and snowboarding options for the very young or the beginners to the experienced. Vista Ridge is proclaimed to be the “best non-mountain winter recreation in Alberta”.

Jen’s Pick: While you are enjoying your winter recreation, pick up a season pass for the Vista Ridge Aerial Adventure Park open during the Summer season. Zip-lining, climbing, jumping and swinging is what you can expect from the Adventure park. For ages 7 and up.

2018 Alberta Winter Games

From February 16 to 19 of 2018 the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will play host to the 2018 Alberta Winter Games. With a variety of sports such as figure skating, alpine skiing, women and men’s hockey, badminton and many, many more, there are options for everyone. Absolute Serendipity is a little piece of whimsy in downtown Fort McMurray. A local business who supports other local businesses, Absolute Serendipity for the DIYer or the person who would love to DIY but doesn’t have the time, but REALLY wants something that looks like they made it themselves. The storefront offers various paint options, paint accessories, hardware, handmade gifts, educational workshops and even finished restored furniture. Staff are knowledgeable and offer suggestions and advice for those new to the DIY world or seasoned experts.

Cool Blondes Salon

Tucked away between the Boys and Girls Club of Fort McMurray and the River Pointe Shops is a gem of a salon called Cool Blondes.

If you have ever seen someone walking around McMurray with that incredible blonde hair, they likely had it done by Andrew and his staff at Cool Blondes.

Their claim to fame is beautiful blonde colours that are difficult to achieve, but are skilled in all hair colour techniques, including fashion colours.
