Troy & Kirsti Dickson
Troy & Kirsti Dickson
Ages: Troy 30, Kirsti 33
Troy and Kirsti Dickson met and fell in love in true Fort Mac fashion: “at a kick ass, good ol’ Fort McMurray garage party,” in Troy’s words. Both came to our city with little idea of what it was going to be like, and both quickly found love - with RMWB and with each other.
“I moved to Fort McMurray in 2008 believing everything I had heard about the city,” shared Kirsti, “‘It’s a working town,’ some would say. ‘It’s full of drugs,’ I heard also. I did know that moving here would solve a few of my problems and you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do!”
Like many others, Kirsti came here with fixed deadline: “I had a six month game plan - get in, make money, and get out. Six months turned into now 11 years, and I don’t plan on leaving any time soon.” What changed for her? The people she met once she got here. She was able to connect with other people who had similar mindsets to her - people who were chasing opportunities. “This handful of people became some of my best friends, and one even became my husband,” said Kirsti.
Troy found his way to Fort McMurray without even really meaning to, at first. “It’s kind of a funny story. I originally applied to work for ROCK 97.7 in Grande Prairie,” Troy explained. “The position was already filled before I got a chance to have my interview but the General Manager wanted to meet me anyway.” Soon, Troy found himself with a job offer for Country 93.3 and 97.9 ROCK here in Fort Mac.
Although accepting his job offer and moving North felt risky, once Troy got here he didn’t look back. Shared Troy, “Fast forward almost 10 amazing years - Kirsti and I are married and madly in love. I’m now the General Sales Manager at Country 93.3 and 97.9 ROCK. Kirsti is the General Manager at the best spot in town - Earls, and we couldn’t be happier living in this amazing community.”
