Who is your hero?
My Mom. She is the epitome of loving and kind. She sees the good in everyone, and can see the light even in the hardest moments. She is someone I will always look up to and strive to be like.
Thirty-two-year-old Liz Whitcomb came to Fort McMurray 13 years ago from Saint John, New Brunswick, and has quickly established herself as a leader within Wood Buffalo’s restaurant and hospitality industry.
As the Community Relations and Marketing Coordinator with Boston Pizza, she has organized fundraisers with Boston Pizza including the annual Chew for Charity event. She is the 2018 Red Menu Chair with the United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo, and was one of the organizers of the region’s Humbolt Broncos fundraiser. She is also an in-school mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
It’s clear that being a part of this community is important to Liz. “When I moved here I had no intention of staying more than six months, but here I am 13 years later,” she shares. “The opportunities I have been given here, ad the amazing people who have come into my lifelong the way will be something I am forever grateful for. When people are quick to judge or turn up their nose to Fort McMurray, I am quick to defend. This community has so much to offer, and is so full of the most incredible people.”
