Growing up in a middle-class family in Pakistan, Fatima Mian found great encouragement and inspiration in her mother. Despite the wishes of her father, Fatima’s mother supported her desire to pursue an education - the first steps towards Fatima becoming the successful woman she is today.
Now 39-years-old, Fatima is a real estate agent, a mother of three, and an impactful member of this community that she’s called home since 2007. Whether volunteering for Community Cleanup, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank’s annual food drive, participating as a member of the Rotary Club, or playing the role of Soccer Mom, Fatima is seen all around Fort McMurray, enjoying the sense of community offered here.
As President of the Canadian Pakistani Women’s Association, Fatima focuses on setting an example for women who need to escape abusive relationships and financial education for women. She understands first-hand the effects of abuse, and is a strong advocate for women who are facing it.
When asked what being a part of this community means to her, Fatima is quick to reply simply, “Everything.” With lots of opportunities to build relationships, Fatima believes people have the chance to never feel alone. And it’s her commitment and dedication to building relationships in our community that ensures that’s true.
