Darren Mercredi

At the young age of 34 Darren Mercredi has accomplished so much as a leader of his community. He is not only a devoted dad and Councillor with Mikisew Cree First Nation. Born and raised in the region, he grew up through some difficult times, finding himself struggling with substance abuse at an early age, but he turned it all around and has since taken on a bigger role.

Now drawing on his own personal experiences, Darren is committed to helping the people of his nation, whether young or old. He prides himself on his honesty; if you ask him something and he doesn’t know the answer he’ll tell you as much. And he’ll work hard to find out the answer.

Darren’s obvious pride and devotion to the Mikisew Cree First Nation is clear, and he has his sights on continuing on the path of making an impact. “I want to be Chief one day,” he says. And it’s clear that with his determination and willingness to work hard, he may very well be.
