MARTY GILES

Profession: Owner, Northstar Ford Group
Age: 48 • Years in Wood Buffalo: 21

Award-winning entrepreneur making a difference.

48-year-old Marty Giles has made his mark in the auto sales industry...not just in Fort McMurray, but in Alberta and even Canada. His passion for Fort McMurray shines through in everything he does and inspires in the rest of his team.

As the second youngest non-succession Ford Dealer in Canadian history, Marty was also the first Canadian to win the “Salute to Dealers Award” for philanthropy in 2007. He was the recipient of the Wood Buffalo Business of the Year award, and was a finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Every year from 2011 through 2014, he was the Largest Retail Commercial Ford Dealership in Western Canada.

Always wanting to lend his talents and skills, Marty currently devotes an incredible amount of his time as he sits on the boards of Vista Ridge, the United Way Board of Directors Fort McMurray, the Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. He has previously sat on the board of the Northern Lights Regional Health Foundation, Leadership Wood Buffalo, and has been an MRI campaign chair. Once Marty commits to a project or organization, he is all in, and does everything in his abilities to make his impact and ensure success.

In his free time, Marty enjoys fitness, golf, and playing the guitar, and when asked about his favourite thing about living in Wood Buffalo, it’s the ability to make your own future that stands out for him.

With his wife Dennine and two sons, Marty and his family are true community champions who fight tirelessly for good and worthwhile causes and a more prosperous future for Fort McMurray.

It’s because of this commitment that Marty has been named one of YMM’s Top 50 Under 50.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: “10 in 10 out. Doesn’t matter if it’s a business or a relationship, if you put a five into anything you will get a five out. If you put a seven in, you’ll get a seven out. When I have put a 10 in, I get a 10 out.”
