Profession: Senior Financial Advisor with ATB Investor Services
Age: 34 • Years in Wood Buffalo: 5.5

Appreciates the region and how it allows residents to go out and do the things they enjoy.

Typical to the Fort McMurray story, 34-year-old Nelson Barbosa and his wife came to the region with a five-year plan. They quickly reassessed that initial thought-process.

From great friends to opportunities that have been presented both professionally and personally, this region has allowed for exceptional growth in all aspects of life.

As a senior financial advisor with ATB Investor Services, Nelson has been named a part of the ATB President’s League of 2016, although he’s one to try and stay under the radar when possible.

Nelson’s main volunteer work comes as a member of the Fort McMurray Rotary Club and from his ties to the Northern Lights Health Foundation, as well as KidSport Wood Buffalo, and the various activities that they have throughout the year. In addition, ATB has a “Leaders Give Back” program which brings the leadership teams to local Food Banks to help in whatever capacity is needed on an annual basis.

As the current Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair for the Northern Lights Health Foundation, and a board member for the local KidSport Wood Buffalo, Nelson enjoys golfing, biking, and spending time with his son, Anthony, and wife, Priscila.

When reflecting on living in Wood Buffalo, Nelson is quick to mention all that it has for a young family, all within a 15 minute drive...from hiking, running, biking through Birchwood Trails, golfing at Thickwood or Miskanaw, and snowboarding at Vista Ridge.

Nelson’s work with in our community, and quiet dedication are just some of what makes him one of YMM’s Top 50 Under 50.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: “We all have the opportunity to learn something everyday, and it is our obligation to LISTEN and ensure that we do so.”
