ONCE UPON A TIME, AN URBAN MYTH WAS spread by eager gossips telling the tale of what was to blame for no local blood donor clinics.
That tale, they would whisper, is no such clinics were held in Fort McMurray because it was such a hot bed for sexually transmitted infections.
Uh-huh. Yup, they would say. It’s true.
Well, turns out, it’s not. It actually comes down to economics.
YMM sent contributor Ben Kennett to check-out Tommy Gun’s Original Barbershop! Here is a glimpse into his top-notch experience.
Being a gadget geek, I always manage to find myself caught up in the world of technology. This highly-competitive, billion-dollar market has generated some of the most amazing devices we use on a daily (and most likely, hourly) basis. Here’s a run-down of some cool tech that recently made its debut into the world: Microsoft Surface.
WHAT THE HELL IS A Hashtag?” This question came from one of my grumpy, older, technology-shy relatives, and he caught me by surprise until I saw he was reading an article that had been copied direct from Twitter.
YMM Editor Krista Balsom sat down with local theatre enthusiast Michael Beamish to find out more about Keyano Theatre’s upcoming large-scale production - “Hometown… The Musical!”
Describe yourself and what you do in less than 50 words.
I am a playwright, director, and actor. I started my career at Keyano College in the VPA program and went on to get my degree at Lethbridge University. I did indie theatre in Edmonton where I wrote and directed my own shows, and I toured at various festivals across Western Canada. I moved to McMurray just over a year ago and have been involved in numerous productions including The 39 Steps, The Farnsworth Invention , Rubbish, and Legion Blues.
The age old adage that one is either a lover or a fighter does not ring true with Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2012 inductee, Sandy Bowman. Spend any considerable amount of time with this man, and you’ll conclude that he is both a lover and a fighter. Bowman will vehemently defend anything he is passionate about, and the things that get his blood pumping range from family, community, giving, and yes, the misunderstood world of mixed martial arts.
MAKING YOUR HOUSE INTO YOUR HOME ONE DIY PROJECT AT A TIME
HOME IS AN INTERESTING WORD around here in Fort McMurray. Everyone lives here, but so few people identify Fort Mac as home. Some have lived here for decades, yet still do not relate to Fort Mac as “home”. One thing we can all agree on is that #YMM is a place where we all both work hard and play hard. And after all is said and done, there is likely going to be a place where you rest your head at night (or in the day, depending on your shift).
