Many of the residents of Fort McMurray know that off-roading options here are limited. The more land allocated to the growth and development of Fort McMurray, the fewer accessible trails for these motorsports. That is, until 2012, when Shane Ganong founded the Northern Off-Road Society of Fort McMurray, a local not-for-profit organization. Shane, an avid motorsport enthusiast, wanted to share his love for the daring sports by providing the residents of Fort McMurray with a safe environment to practice various types of recreational motorsports and off-roading.
The age old adage that one is either a lover or a fighter does not ring true with Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2012 inductee, Sandy Bowman. Spend any considerable amount of time with this man, and you’ll conclude that he is both a lover and a fighter. Bowman will vehemently defend anything he is passionate about, and the things that get his blood pumping range from family, community, giving, and yes, the misunderstood world of mixed martial arts.
When the puck dropped at 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th at the Casman Centre, history was made for Keyano College. It was the first official hockey home game for Keyano College in the Alberta College’s Athletic Conference (ACAC). Excitement has been brewing for the start of the season since it was announced in May 2011 that hockey would be joining an already expanding Huskies Athletics program.
