For a second time, we are introducing the Best of YMM - Reader’s Choice! This is your opportunity to tell us who, what and where your favourite things are around the Wood Buffalo region. 

We launched our inaugural Best of YMM in 2019. And while we projected to continue for 2020, the coronavirus pandemic drastically changed the way we experience our everyday lives. 

We’ve decided to relaunch the program and made a few adjustments to our first list of categories and welcome you - our readers - to let us know if there’s something on this list that we missed or maybe there’s a special story to share. Also, your nomination and vote are not restricted to a year date or timeline. It’s what you feel is your favourite at the time of voting.

Together with our presenting partners Casman and Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism, we want to recognize the efforts of those who devoted their time and were quick to adapt to this new world setting with virtual events and programs, while also keep in the polls open to those hard-working business owners who have been adjusting and readjusting through the constraints of these circumstances.

Overall, we want to give our businesses reasons to be proud of their achievements and show them their efforts have been greatly appreciated and noticed.

About The Best of YMM Process

Your McMurray Magazine is hosting the Best of YMM for a second time through its reader’s choice program. 

Your McMurray Magazine shares the nomination and voting announcements on its social media platforms and through its newsletter. Nominations and voting are by any resident living within the Wood Buffalo region with one nomination or vote per day. 

The first round of voting begins with nominations sent in through our Best of YMM form. For the second rounding of voting, the results from the nominations are calculated and the top five from each category are selected in a new form and voted on by the public. 

Residents and businesses can self-nominate and vote, once a day. They are also encouraged to share the nomination and voting forms on their social media platforms to let others know to take part.

Your McMurray Magazine, also known as YMM, is celebrating its sixth year as Fort McMurray’s brightest magazine, offering local content to everyone who lives, works, and plays here. It provides a forum for local businesses and organizations to have their messages heard, and has become a well-respected staple media organization within our community.

These past six years have been an amazing experience, and we are excited for the future now more than ever! We have had the honour of telling the stories of our region through happiness and heartbreak. We have celebrated, time and time again, the resilience of the people who call this place home. We have told the stories that form the patchwork of our community. We have connected in a way we never dreamed possible.

As we launch our seventh volume of Your McMurray Magazine, we’re taking a fresh approach with issues that coincide with Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall. Each quarterly issue will be devoted to covering topics that tie in with each season, and will give our advertisers more exposure for each of their campaigns. As well, we’ll have our much-loved annual Holiday Guide, and the Food & Entertainment Guide which we proudly partner with Fort McMurray Tourism on.

Fort McMurray is a very unique and wonderful place for businesses, and an even more amazing place to live and call home. Our residents have a high discretionary income, and are keen to support the local economy.

Holiday Cookbook

‘Tis the season for festive eats and treats! Be a part of our Santas Anonymous Holiday Cookbook, a partnership between Country 93.3, 97.9 ROCK and Your McMurray Magazine and Hines Health Services, with all proceeds benefiting Santas Anonymous.

This cookbook will feature recipes and stories from local personalities, restaurants, local chefs and community members, as well as the history of our local Santas Anonymous. It will be sold with all proceeds going to support the 2021 Santas Anonymous campaign and be available for purchase at different locations around town.

MAGAZINE SPECIFICATIONS
  • Finished size: 8" x 10"
  • Paper stock: Offset Litho.
  • Binding: Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator) on Mac platform.
  • Printing: Offset litho
  • Design software: Adobe Creative Suite CC 2015 (InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator) on Mac platform
  • Safety Margins: For bleed pages and spreads, keep important text and imagery within 0.375" from the edges of the ad. (0.25" from trim)
  • Bleeds: For bleed pages please add 0.25" on all sides
  • Minimum type size: 6-point type (for black text on a light background) and 8-point type for white or knockout text
PRODUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

All submitted artwork must be in digital format. For best results, please provide artwork as high resolution PDF. Low resolution ads will not reproduce with the best results. We are not responsible for detecting poor resolution ads, but will do our best, but accept no responsibility if they are submitted at low resolution. If we do have a concern with an ad, we will contact the advertiser and suggest that the ad be re-supplied or re-built at the advertiser’s cost.

DESKTOP FILE FORMAT

All images must be in CMYK (process) colour. JPG, TIFF or EPS files must be 300 dpi. All required image trapping should be included in the files when submitted.

AD DESIGN SERVICES

Have your advertisement developed by marketing professionals with the help of an expert graphic designer, working closely with you to identify your specific needs at a cost of $175. The completed advertisement will be yours to keep and use for other advertising purposes outside of YMM.

YMM is published on a bi-monthly basis and features topical and seasonal feature articles as well as regular content by local contributors. It is distributed through local vendors, and featured in various high traffic locations. Please ask for a full listing of confirmed vendors.

WHAT IS THE READERSHIP OF YMM?

YMM has a print distribution of at least 15,000 copies per issue and a readership of over 40,000 through second and third reads. Due to the high print quality and truly local content, readers will likely keep it to pass along to a family or friend or read through it a couple of times.
