GOOD NEWS ONLY with Mike Jones

Even if it's just temporary – it was lovely to see folks out enjoying the nicer weather. On my drive home Monday night, I spotted several dozen folks jogging across the bridge. There was nothing chasing them, so I can only assume it was something called "exercise" - I think I'm saying that correctly.

Nice to see some more folks enjoying the sunshine earlier in the week; Paddy McSwiggins had to make some modifications to their patio but we were able to pop in for one (okay....more than one) on Tuesday and it's still a great atmosphere! They are also one of a handful of local establishments (including but not limited to Canadian Brewhouse, Tavern on Main and more) that allow well-behaved pups the chance to enjoy the patio life as well!

Good time to remind folks with all the river break preparations going downtown that Surekha’s On the Snye remains open for takeout, delivery and patio dining! They have one of the best patios in town and let's just say their sangria is perfect for a hot afternoon!

Keyano College is receiving a $25,000 grant from #BellLetsTalk to help with mental health for students. The college plans on creating a program to promote the various services available as well as have workshops for staff.

For lunch this week, I decided to check out a corner of downtown I'm not often in and enjoyed a delicious donair from Franklin Donair– they're open for pickup and delivery through Bulldog Delivery.

While waiting for my donair - I popped in next store to Northern Pet Emporium which I've never been in before! They had an incredible selection of pet supplies and let's be honest it's good for all of our mental health to pop in and see the bunny rabbits and incredible selection of fish (they even have a turtle!)

This week was National Volunteer Appreciation Week - Wood Buffalo Volunteers is a tremendous starting point if you want to get more involved! Kudos to them for emailing a free coffee to their registered users from Mitchell’s Café or Wood Buffalo Coffee Company

If you're looking for a job Hines Health Services Inc. are hiring a bunch of positions right now for COVID screening and tracing as well as administrative positions!

Congratulations to Tactical Magic Games on their TENTH anniversary in the community! Visit them for all your gaming and hobby needs on Timberline Drive - right next to Mary Browns!

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism is bringing the Rumble Alberta Touring Challenge to Fort McMurray this summer. This motorcycle and car challenges Albertans to explore their own backyard like a tourist. There are several amazing routes including Fort McMurray to Two Hills that participants can earn prizes for completing challenges along the way. The challenge starts May 24, 2021 – check out Rumble Alberta.

If you're going to be barbecuing this weekend - don't forget to stop by McMurray BBQ Centre at McMurray TV, where they have thousands of different sauces and rubs!

Finally, we've got a handful of awesome birthdays in town! On Monday two great local musicians celebrated birthdays – happy birthday to Don Grose and Rory O'Hearn!

Tuesday was the big day for rockstar, principal and frequent contender for busiest calendar in town - Mr Danny Tulk! I'm not saying you can have a beer "on him" but you can pick up a beer with "him on it" as the brand new 57 Artist Ale cans are officially in stock at 57 North Kitchen + Brewery.

Wednesday, two great ladies celebrated their birthdays Amanda Weger who does a great job with online nutrition and more and Angie Barone who you've undoubtedly seen all over town volunteering for amazing events like the YMM Food Festival

And today is the special day for Realtor Kim Shears–Bailey!
