MacDonald Island Park
IT’S BEING EXPANDED IN A MAJOR WAY
MacDonald Island Park is already Canada’s largest community recreation and events experience, and it’s about to get even bigger. Construction is underway on a $127-million expansion that will include an Outdoor Performance Stadium, Shared Space Community Centre and Tournament Centre. Check out the renderings at macdonaldisland.ca.
YOU CAN GOLF IN THE WINTER
Miskanaw Golf Club at MacDonald Island Park features a state-of-the-art Golf Simulator from mid-November to mid-March every year. It’s housed in the Sly Fox Pro Shop and is a great way to beat the winter blahs. It’s fully licensed and offers a cozy fireplace for a great all-around experience.
A FAMILY MEMBERSHIP IS LESS THAN $1,000
An annual family membership to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre or ‘Mi Play Pass’ is $999 and that gets your family full access to all the Syncrude Aquatic Centre, expanded Total Fitness Centre and K-Rock Climbing Wall has to offer. That and drop-in access at both Field Houses and both CNRL Arena 1 and CNRL Arena 2, among other facilities.
IT HOSTS THE BEST FAMILY EXTRAVAGANZA IN FORT MCMURRAY ON NEW YEAR’S EVE
Called The Craze, presented by Fort McMurray Realtors, this premier one-day event is the place to bring the family on New Year’s Eve (during the day, of course). There is tons of free family entertainment and games. Last year, well over 5,000 people attended the event.
IT HOLDS CONCERTS INSIDE AS WELL AS OUTSIDE
The Nexen Field House is home to concerts during the non-summer months. Stay tuned to the event page at macdonaldisland.ca or better yet, follow @MacDonaldIsland on Twitter or ‘like’ MacDonald Island on Facebook to get all the up-to-date info on which acts are coming to town.
