Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo: The Facts
After winning the bid in June 2011, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will host the Western Canada Summer Games in August 2015.
The Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo continues the western Canadian tradition as a multi-sport event to provide development opportunities for amateur athletes and to help them advance their skills in a competitive, but friendly environment. The Games were established in 1975, the competitors consisting of athletes from Canada’s four western provinces and three northern territories.
2015 Wood Buffalo is the largest multi-sport event to be hosted in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. With 18 sports, 2015 Wood Buffalo will bring over 2500 athletes to the community.
Over 14,000 guests will be in the region from August 7 – 16, 2015, including family, friends, coaches, officials and media. The 10 days of Games will also include musicians, art displays and cultural performances.

MISTIKO
Mistiko is the official mascot for 2015 Wood Buffalo. Mistiko has been involved in the Games since May 2014 and comes from a long line of Wood Buffalo Mascots. His father Buddy was the official mascot of the 2004 Arctic Winter Games, which were also hosted in Wood Buffalo.
Mistiko’s name is special to the region as it tributes the wood bison who roam in the Wood Buffalo National Park. “Mistiko” is the Cree word for “wood” and he was named by local elementary student Gabrielle Dubuc from Ecole St. Paul.
ATHLETES VILLAGE
Noralta Lodge is the Official Athletes Village of 2015 Wood Buffalo. Located approximately 26 kilometers north of Fort McMurray’s downtown core, it is not only centralized but offers athletes with an experience like no other. Exceeding an Olympic standard, the Athletes Village provides each athlete their own room equipped with a bed, bathroom, writing desk and television.
VOLUNTEER ON!
In collaboration with Shell Canada Energy, Exclusive Volunteer Sponsor, 2015 Wood Buffalo wants you to register as a volunteer online at 2015woodbuffalo.com. With 17 Functional Areas and over 130 committees- there are opportunities for all areas of interest and skillsets. Volunteers will receive orientation and safety training, a uniform, free transit, discounted Gameswear (at designated times), volunteer tracking, entered in volunteer-exclusive draws and invited to our volunteer recognition event. Each volunteer must provide a minimum commitment of 15 volunteer hours.
GAME ON! MERCHANDISE
Located at MacDonald Island Park, the Game On! Boutique hosts a wide variety of 2015 Wood Buffalo merchandise; men’s, women and youth clothing as well as water bottles, hats, keychains and much more. Open Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
TICKETS

Phase 1 and Phase 2 Pass: entrance to all sporting events except gold medal rounds of basketball, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, and baseball. Phase 1 is from August 7-11. Phase 2 is August 12-16.
2 Phase Super Pass: entrance to all sporting events, except gold medal rounds of basketball, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, and baseball.
Opening Ceremonies: entrance to and seating in the seat assigned to the ticket you hold at the Opening Ceremonies held August 7, 2015.
Closing Ceremonies: entrance to and seating in the seat assigned to the ticket you hold at the Closing Ceremonies held August 16, 2015.
Single Day Event Passes: entrance into a specific sport for that specific day with general seating.
