The Multicultural Expo
Multicultural EXPO 2015 promises to be grander than ever before with dance, dress, food, and handicraft markets from most countries represented in Wood Buffalo. Last year we had an audience of 2,000 people; this year we hope to fill both Nexen field houses with families of all ages, races and cultures sharing and adding to the mosaic that makes Wood Buffalo such a vibrant community.
On February 14th 7pm, Keyano Theatre will host an international film for everyone. February 15th 12-6pm, Nexen Field House with be abuzz with EXPO-2015, which has outgrown an organization; it is something MCA hopes the community will own, with all facets of art and culture represented.
The Tackle Racism InterSchool Competition for essays, poetry and art will run until February 20th in all schools across Wood Buffalo for grades 3-5, 6-9 and 10-12. The award ceremony to be hosted at MacDonald Island on March 21st will commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In collaboration with RMWB, ONE Regional Recreation Corporation, FMPSD, FMCSD, Justin Slade Youth foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc. and Big Brothers Big Sisters, we hope to support kids in developing a conscious approach towards racism and discrimination.
