In 2010, 91.1 The Bridge (former KAOS 91.1) started weekly Family Skating events at The Suncor Community Leisure Centre on MacDonald Park.  The events included free hot chocolate, free ice time, great music blasting across the ice, and kids prizes from the treasure box.  The charity-owned radio station has hosted weekly skating events during the winter months and have loved hosting community members out to the rink for some wholesome family fun.

Over the past nine winters, the skate has evolved to include special skates littered throughout the winter.

The Mayor and Council Skate: where the cities elected officials come out to join in the fun, shake hands, meet the cities residents and take a spin around the ice.

The Santa Clause Skate: where an extra special guest makes an appearance and wows the children, poses for photos and brings some Christmas cheer.

The Mascot Skate: where the cities mascots come with their best dance moves and games.

The Love your Neighbour Skate where the Gems from Evergreen Church bring baking and crafts and serve the folks who come out to skate.

The 91.1 The Bridge Family Skates have been an amazing way to get out and get active, and to promote family togetherness by offering a winter sport indoors that allow everyone to come out for free and have a great time!

This year, we’re excited to announce a new skating initiative in a rural location!  Anzac Family Skate Fridays!  Come on out select Fridays throughout the winter season to the Anzac Recreation Centre and experience some real good music, free ice time and free hot chocolate!  91.1 The Bridge is so happy to be partnering with Anzac Grocery and with The Anzac Recreation Centre to bring this beloved event to Anzac!

If this is something you’d like to volunteer at – we’d love to have you!  Dates to be determined.  Watch for posters at the Anzac Recreation Centre and the 91.1 The Bridge Facebook page.  Facebook.com/911thebridge.  Contact us to sign up, info@911thebridge.com.
