Hot Mess Healing in Fort McMurray

(1 Vote)

From a “Hot Mess” to a fitness guru to a self-help author: this town had bigger plans for me than I ever could have imagined. While most come to Fort McMurray looking to improve their finances, I apparently came to transform my entire life.

One of Fort McMurray’s best kept secrets is a supportive community for healing and self-discovery that is at our fingertips in this beautiful municipality. There’s something truly magical about this place, and I’ve experienced it’s powers first hand.

Through a dysfunctional childhood and even more dysfunctional adulthood, I became lost, disconnected and inevitably depressed. I married the man of my dreams, and had everything I had ever wanted, with the exception of one thing: happiness. My depression magnified under the irony of the situation.

My husband introduced me to Lifeforce Herbal Healing Centre in Thickwood to kickstart my path to a more fulfilling life. Through “Reconnective Healing” treatments, healing crystals, and a mountain of self-help books, I was healed and given the tools to radically reclaim my life.

Through the help of the Lifeforce staff, I was guided through my journey. I learned about having a positive perception, self-love and meditation. My life transformed from a “Hot Mess” to miraculous. I traded in my depression medication for meditation and never looked back.

After turning my life around from one extreme to the next, I decided to write a book to chronicle my journey from a “Hot Mess” to the obnoxiously happy person I had become. I wanted to share the “Ten Steps to Beat Stress and Feel Your Best” that I had discovered in my own journey to wellness.

With crystal clarity, I recall the agony of depression, and the hopelessness attached to it. I wanted my book to share my triumph over depression and anxiety so that people knew they weren’t alone, and that they, too, could escape the darkness that surrounded them. I also wanted it to be approachable, funny and entertaining, as I found a lack of those qualities in the self-help genre. Many of the self-help books I had read inspired more cat naps than transformations.

Two years later, tears of joy filled my eyes as I held Confessions of an Ex Hot Mess in my hands for the very first time. It was much more than a self-help book to me, as it was my story as well. It was the very first time I had ever told my life story in such detail. This book represented a release of emotions I had been holding onto for a lifetime. Confessions was brought to life by local photographer Vanessa Wennerstrom of Vintage Blossoms Photography.

Since publishing my book, I have continued with my personal growth journey: most notably conquering a lifelong sugar addiction through the help of Christine Perry with Hypnosis Fort McMurray (hypnosisfortmcmurray.com).

I feel so blessed to have moved to a community as abundant as Fort McMurray, and I’m not just referring to financially. This town is filled with beautiful souls who commit their lives to improving the lives of others, and I am so proud to be able to make my own contribution to this great cause.

To now see Confessions of an Ex Hot Mess on the shelves at Lifeforce Herbal Healing Centre, where my own personal transformation began, brings this beautiful story full circle. Fort McMurray is the heart and soul of my book, and of my personal evolution.

Dreams truly do come true, and I’d like to thank every single person who has supported me along my own journey here in YMM. You know who you are, and I need you to know how much I cherish you in my life.
