Celebrating the New RCMP Detachment

The RCMP need more room, and that is just what they are getting with the new detachment going in the Gregoire Industrial Park. The new jail and detachment are located across the street from the SPCA and Diversified Transportation, and will house not just on duty police but the traffic enforcement unit as well.

“Everyone is excited to finally get the new building because we are bursting at the seams at the detachment in Timberlea”, says Officer in Charge, Superintendent Bob Couture. The current detachment in Timberlea houses not just the RCMP and all their departments, but they also share it with Bylaw, Sheriffs, and the ALERT team. “This will give us more space and a chance to do our jobs better than ever.”

To celebrate the grand opening of the new detachment the RCMP are going to be holding a Jail and Bail promotion where the community will have a chance to lock up their bosses or friends and help out Victim Services as well. For a maximum of 2 hours and a donation of $200 you can lock up whoever you want. “We will be holding people for shorter periods of time for smaller donations, but we have a full range of activities planned for everyone who will be arrested for this,” Laura Barnes says from Victim Service. “We want everyone to be able to participate and come see the new detachment at the same time!” A prize awarded for the arrest of the highest bounty collected adds to grand opening fun!

All the money raised will go to Victim Services who help out the RCMP in many ways. You will be able to set up your boss or friends for arrest by mid-October when the RCMP takes possession of the new building, have a fun time and help out a well needed service to the community as well.
