Your McMurray Magazine’s Top Fifty Under Fifty
2016 was the inaugural year of our Top 50 Under 50 program and in 2017 we wanted to celebrate again! Following the wildfire, it became abundantly clear that our community was full of outstanding people; people who deserved to be recognized for all they were contributing.
But it also became clear that the fire was not the defining feature of these people. Their passion and commitment is what defines them.
Our Top 50 Under 50 recipients are diverse, hard working, passionate, dedicated community leaders. They come from different cultures, backgrounds, and ways of life. But their love for our region is the one thing they all have in common. New this year in 2017 is the addition of three recipients from our northern neighbours in Fort Chipewyan. Our plan moving forward to make this list regional and celebrate all corners of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
As was the case last year, we easily could have made this list the Top 100 Under 100, but we’ve reigned it in and kept it at 50. Not everyone will agree with our choices, but we do hope everyone will celebrate their accomplishments, drive, and zest for making Wood Buffalo the amazing place that it is.

Compiling each year’s list of Top 50 Under 50 is not an easy task. In a vibrant community such as Wood Buffalo, the pool is large, and narrowing it down is not easy.
We assembled a group of passionate people who were willing to put the hard work in. These people met for hours, and worked tirelessly to come up with our final 50. And for that, we thank them! If you know of someone you think deserves to make this list for 2018 and would like to suggest them to the 2018 panel, please email kerri@balsom.ca and we’ll ensure that it’s passed along to the team.
