Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park

Pop Up Performances
Saturday/Sunday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Enjoy musical performances and dance styles from around the world. There will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Crafts and Activities
Saturday/Sunday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

  • Design your own puck - design your own hockey puck and take it home with you!
  • Traditional Cree & Dene Hand Games - experience traditional Cree & Dene Hand Games.

Community Art Project
Facilitated by a local artist

Add your creative mark on a community art piece that will become a lasting legacy of the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games (this project will continue on Monday, 10:00 am - noon).

 

ATCO Torch Relay Lighting Ceremony

Friday, February 16 2:00 PM
Location: Corner of Franklin Avenue and Poplar Crescent (Continuing down Franklin Avenue to Shell Place Baseball Stadium)

We officially kick off the Games weekend with the ATCO Torch Relay. The torch will be lit in a ceremony at Poplar Crescent before it winds its way through the downtown core and onto Macdonald Island Park. The final leg of the relay will take place during the Opening Ceremonies starting at 7:00 pm in Shell Place Baseball Stadium. Join all of our honoured ATCO Torch Relay athletes in celebrating the official start to the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games. IT’S GAMES TIME!

 

Opening Ceremonies

Friday, February 16

PRE-SHOW: 6:30 PM (high energy music and a DJ Battle!)
PROGRAM: 7:00 PM
LOCATION: Shell Place Baseball Stadium (MacDonald Island Park)

ALL OF THE LIGHTS! The 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games is going to light up the night with DJ battles, hip hop dancers, local artist Lady Saint and some spectacular surprises. This dazzling show takes place under the beautiful night sky.  Dress Warm and be prepared to kick off the Games weekend with high energy!

 

Total Aboriginal Interpretive Trail Guided Tours

Saturday/Sunday 1:00 pm*

Join the McMurray Metis on a guided tour of the Total Aboriginal Interpretive Trail. Hear stories about this land and enjoy the public art pieces that are found throughout the trail. We will end off with hot chocolate and Bannock. Dress Warm!
