Born and raised in Campbell River, British Columbia, 47-year-old Deanne Bergey and her family moved to Fort McMurray in 2000.

Her career started in Laboratory Medicine, where she worked for 17 years in various management roles. In 2009, Deanne went back to school and completed her Masters Certificate in Project Management at the University of Victoria.

Deanne began working with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo within a few weeks of her arrival in Fort McMurray. She has worked in Planning and Development, Legislative Services, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and for the last several years she has been working as the Senior Executive Assistant to the Mayor. In this incredibly dynamic role Deanne is a dedicated public servant who works tirelessly to help the Mayor and Council perform their tasks with the utmost respect, professionalism, humility and dedication. Her resident-first approach to her role in the Mayor’s office and her big heart have assisted with countless issues and thousands of people in her tenure.

In her free time, Deanne volunteers with Fort McMurray Victim Services. Together with her family, she enjoys camping, traveling, and spending time with friends. She has been married to her husband, Keith, for 28 years, and they have a son, Gavin, who is an RCMP member, and a daughter, Kelsey, who is registered nurse at the Northern Lights Regional Hospital.

The vibrant community filled with fantastic people is what Deanne considers her favourite thing about Wood Buffalo. In addition to her work with Fort McMurray Victim Services, Deanne also gives of her time where she can with the Big Brothers Big Sisters SMS Wine Auction, and other community events.

Deanne’s passion for the people of Wood Buffalo, role in assisting with local governance and her commitment to the community are just two of the reasons why she is one of YMM’s Top 50 Under 50.
