SCOTT GERMAIN

Profession: Firefighter/EMT
Age: 29 • Years in Wood Buffalo: 11

Credits his wife, brothers and sisters at the Fire Department, and community support for his successes.

Scott Germain, 29, moved to Fort McMurray from Plamondon 11 years ago, when he received a job as a firefighter/EMT with the Fort McMurray Fire Department.

In the time he’s been here, Scott has been fortunate enough to become involved with the Friends of the Fort McMurray Firefighters Charities Fund, and has been serving as the chairman since 2008. Together with the committee, Scott organizes the membership and helps to raise awareness and funds for five local charities: the Fort McMurray SPCA, the Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, Unity House, and The Centre for Hope. Through this, Scott has developed a passion for volunteer work and fundraising.

Scott has also been serving as vice president of Powerchair Football Canada, a national group that promotes the sport of Powerchair Football across Canada. This is a soccer-based sport that individuals with neuromuscular disorders can participate in.

In his free time, Scott loves to play hockey, cook, and he has a passion for teaching. Recently, he was a contestant on Season 4 of Chopped Canada on the Food Network.

When reflecting on his favourite thing about living in Wood Buffalo, Scott talks about the incredible generosity of the community. As someone who has been involved in many social events and fundraisers, he’s seen first-hand the support given from not only our citizens, but businesses as well.

Scott’s dedication to protecting our community as a firefighter and EMT, combined with his efforts to support local charities are what has landed him on our list of YMM’s Top 50 Under 50.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: “The recent wildfire has only brought our community closer together, and I am proud to be a part of this resilient community.”
